Public Presentation of Workshop Results ‘Designing Social Cities of Tomorrow’
Time:20:00-22:00
Location: Mediamatic Bank, Vijzelstraat 68, Amsterdam.

How do we make use of new media technologies to make our cities more social, rather than just more hi-tech? During three days 25 innovators from diverse national backgrounds and disciplines (architects, philosophers, engineers and designers) work together to tackle that question. On 16 February they show the prototypes of the interventions they have designed to tackle four complex urban cases..
These cases vary from the development of an empty space on Amsterdam’s Zeeburgereiland, public space development in Eindhoven’s Strijp-S, city making in The Hague’s Haagse Havens, to the opportunities of digital media for civic innovation in Amsterdam.
Tapping from urban philosophy, interaction design, media theory and architecture, and crowd-sourcing ideas, the workshop outcomes contribute to the general debate about new media and urban design. Can we port the collaborative principles from e-culture to urban design? How can we make use of digital technologies to enable citizens to act on collectively shared issues? Can media technologies bring about a sense of place and connection among urbanites, and a feeling of ‘ownership’ of their environment? These questions are addressed in the various presentations.
The presentation is sold out, it is no longer possible to reserve a ticket
