Laurence Claeys & Marc Godon work as senior researchers at Bell Labs-Alcatel-Lucent in Antwerp, Belgium.
The title of their presentation is “Let the Homo Ludens conquer the city: the touch-paradigm in designing new technologies.
“Starting from the broad research topic of the use of the touch-paradigm to interact with ‘things’ (cfr. the ‘Internet of Things’) Rena (R&I unit on residential applications of Bell Labs Alcatel-Lucent) scrutinized the home and city context for the use of RFID.
Different test cases were developed. In all the ying-yang relation between home and city context were pursued and the Homo Ludens (the human as a playful actor) was taken into account.
We would like to present some of the developed uses-cases, conceptual models, user-researches and commercial applications that came out of this research that is part of the European Smarttouch project (http://www.vtt.fi/proj/smarttouch/index.jsp?lang=en).
Some of the cases or researchers we would like to present:
How does the Touch paradigm feel like? A user research on the topic of touch as interaction paradigm.
Re-experiencing Madonna at home: gathering information and entertainment in the city and re-experiencing and sharing it at home.
Reading the city clouds: an artistic socio-cultural project where people share the meaning of their city experiences.
The city as a Fröbel-space: interacting with objects in the city.
