We’re pleased to announce the second series of Ideas Waiting To Happen (IWTH) in October. IWTH brings together creative and technical professionals and selected students, to develop new (business or artistic) applications for emerging technologies
With:
Taskforce Innovatie Regio Utrecht, Gemeente Amersfoort, Gemeente Utrecht, Provincie Utrecht, Ministerie van Economische Zaken, Landbouw en Innovatie, Digiluce, Doe-het-niet-zelf, Amsterdamse Innovatie Motor (AIM)
Throughout October we’ll host four events: three days of lectures and collaboration at Impakt Headquarters at Lauwerecht 10 in Utrecht (on Saturday October 6, 13, 21 from 12-17h) and a final pitch day at Media Plaza. Three teams with the best concepts are rewarded with cash, tech support and exposure. Get an impression trough the report and list of participants of the previous edition.
The three thems in this series are:
Augmented Reality (Saturday 6 October, 12-17h)
Augmented reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented) by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality. By contrast, virtual reality replaces the real world with a simulated one.
The Internet of Things (Saturday 13 October, 12-17h)
Internet of Things” to refer to the general idea of things, especially everyday objects, that are readable, recognizable, locatable, addressable, and/or controllable via the Internet—whether via RFID, wireless LAN, wide-area network, or other means.Everyday objects includes not only the electronic devices we encounter everyday, and not only the products of higher technological development such as vehicles and equipment, but things that we do not ordinarily think of as electronic at all—such as food, clothing, and shelter; materials, parts, and subassemblies; commodities and luxury items;landmarks, boundaries, and monuments; and all the miscellany of commerce and culture.
The Quantified Self (Saturday 20 October, 12-17h)
The Quantified Self is a global collaboration of users and tool-makers interested in the personal meaning of personal data. […] Nearly every day, we hear about a new system to track human behavior. There is sensor-based tracking of sleep, activity, location, heart rate, blood glucose, metabolism, even facial expression. There are web services to track mood, diet, menstrual cycle, productivity, and cognition. Gary Wolf, Co-founder of Quantified Self.
